It’s October 1st, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the impending fall atmosphere that is about to take over the city (and the businesses, too, as a result). Festivals, shows, and pumpkin spirit abounds, but what about the drive for revised business strategy? What about working with the same level of enthusiasm as we did in the spring to bring on new endeavors? What about a lack of a work life balance? What about too much of a balance? We wanted to know the answers to some of these questions. Not only for our business, but for ourselves personally.

In a recent blurb posted by WFAE Charlotte Talks, Neil Pasricha spoke about work life balance. For the average human, we need inside as well as outside of work (no surprise here). He elaborates that work happiness is found in letting go of the need for “retirement,” and looking for work that enables us to have the following: a social life, a structure, a method of continuous learning, and a story to tell.

Coming from someone who has always struggled with a work life balance, this was a hard pill to swallow. Especially in the upcoming months. I find having a reason to get up that involves work related matters difficult to imagine, while Summer seems to struggle with forming extended social ties beyond her upstairs work means. Sometimes we both feel like saying, “here we are world,” and belt out “we are small fish but look at us!” For both aspects of our business, compliance and finance have formed a larger and grandiose idea in our heads for a purpose larger than our own. We seek to help other small businesses around us, and we surely are making some good connections learning about CLT folks in the process.

Although this business is slow growing, we are here, and we are proud. And we will be seen and be heard. Hopefully, while obtaining some work life balance in the process. So buy that pumpkin coffee or donut, and let’s enjoy ourselves little in the business (and personal) realm this season.
